[keyword analysis research] - 3 PROVEN Tips To Find The Right Keywords For Your Website & PPC Campaign
So how do you find the right keywords? I will give you three key tips..
The first tip on how to find the right keywords applies to affiliate marketing: when you are promoting a product or a specific niche, use the exact product name as a keyword. Think about it — if you are selling "ten inch tall blue widgets" and someone types that into their search engine, wouldn't you pay for it? Of course you would. You would probably be willing to pay a lot more for that than just "widgets" or even "blue widgets". Someone who types in "ten inch tall blue widgets" is looking for exactly what you are selling. This is a highly targeted phrase. It is targeted at people who are not only curious about your product, more importantly, people who are looking to buy your product. Pay for these phrases. They are like gold. They will convert like you won't believe. Take these targeted words and phrases and build around them. Use it for broad, phrase, and exact matches. Put buying words ahead of and/or behind your targeted phrase.
Here's another tip: wherever possible, exclude "free" from all of your campaigns. If I sell "ten inch tall blue widgets", I don't want my ad to appear for someone who is searching for free ten inch tall blue widgets. As far as I’m concerned, the freebie seekers can click on my competitors' ads and drive their costs up. I don't need the freebie seekers.
Now, with that being said, there's nothing wrong with using "free" in the text of your ad. If you have a free bonus or some extra that you are offering, include free. But if your product isn't free, don't use free as a keyword. If you do, you are just paying for non-buyers to click on your ad. What's the sense in that?
If you don't believe me about excluding free from your pay per click campaigns, test it. Run two campaigns that are identical except that one excludes free and the other doesn't. Give it a few days and/or a hundred or so clicks for both campaigns. I guarantee that you will see better results - higher conversions, more revenue, and likely even lower costs - on the campaign where "free" is excluded.
The last tip, and this is a biggie, is that you should use a keyword tool. There is no better way to find the right keywords than by using a keyword tool. I have tried plenty. Some are free (try a basic search and you will find plenty). Many are expensive. Some claim that the best are costly, but that they quickly pay for themselves. I have used plenty of keyword tools - from Overture (free) to Brad Callen's KeyWord Elite.
A good keyword tool should help you to do these five things:
- Analysis of pay per click listings — find low cost and high traffic words. Isn’t that all you want?
- Create keyword lists — however many (or few) you want, you can get them
- Pre-built keyword lists
- Analyze KeyWord competition.
- Spy on AdWords Competition — have you ever wanted to know what your keywords your competition is bidding on?
You can with a keyword tool Find out if they run the same keywords all the time, where they are ranked, and much more. This will reveal considerable insight to you. You will find more money in your campaigns through using this tool.
Now you know how to find the right keywords for your website and your pay per click campaigns. You want specific, highly targeted phrases. You want to avoid the freebie seekers, so you are going to exclude "free" from searches. And you absolutely need a keyword tool. Highly targeted phrases are a gold mine, but they are a gold mine of limited size. To make huge profits, you need a keyword tool. A keyword tool not only shows you how to find the right keywords, but it also will show you which ones make money.
